Massively parallel nonparametric regression, with an application to developmental brain mapping.

چکیده
We propose a penalized spline approach to performing large numbers of parallel non-parametric analyses of either of two types: restricted likelihood ratio tests of a parametric regression model versus a general smooth alternative, and nonparametric regression. Compared with naïvely performing each analysis in turn, our techniques reduce computation time dramatically. Viewing the large collection of scatterplot smooths produced by our methods as functional data, we develop a clustering approach to summarize and visualize these results. Our approach is applicable to ultra-high-dimensional data, particularly data acquired by neuroimaging; we illustrate it with an analysis of developmental trajectories of functional connectivity at each of approximately 70000 brain locations. Supplementary materials, including an appendix and an R package, are available online.

Whole Exome Sequencing Reveals a BSCL2 Mutation Causing Progressive Encephalopathy with Lipodystrophy (PELD) in an Iranian Pediatric Patient
BACKGROUND Progressive encephalopathy with or without lipodystrophy is a rare autosomal recessive childhood-onset seipin-associated neurodegenerative syndrome, leading to developmental regression of motor and cognitive skills. In this study, we introduce a patient with developmental regression and autism. The causative mutation was found by exome sequencing. METHODS The proband showed a gener...
متن کاملParametric and Nonparametric Regression with Missing X’s—A Review
This paper gives a detailed overview of the problem of missing data in parametric and nonparametric regression. Theoretical basics, properties as well as simulation results may help the reader to get familiar with the common problem of incomplete data sets. Of course, not all occurences can be discussed so this paper could be seen as an introduction to missing data within regression analysis an...
متن کاملKinematic Mapping and Forward Kinematic Problem of a 5-DOF (3T2R) Parallel Mechanism with Identical Limb Structures
The main objective of this paper is to study the Euclidean displacement of a 5-DOF parallel mechanism performing three translation and two independent rotations with identical limb structures-recently revealed by performing the type synthesis-in a higher dimensional projective space, rather than relying on classical recipes, such as Cartesian coordinates and Euler angles. In this paper, Study's...

Such mappings have been found to exist, for example in the perception process of the human eye where properties of an image are mapped directly to an area of the brain (figure 1). A form of cognition can thus be simulated by replicating the behaviour of the brain and its massively parallel architecture. Some Artificial Neural Networks attempt to artificially recreate this by mapping complex inp...
متن کاملApproaches to Determination of a Full Profile of Blood Group Genotypes: Single Nucleotide Variant Mapping and Massively Parallel Sequencing
The number of blood group systems, currently 35, has increased in the recent years as genetic variations defining red cell antigens continue to be discovered. At present, 44 genes and 1568 alleles have been defined as encoding antigens within the 35 blood group systems. This paper provides a brief overview of two genetic technologies: single nucleotide variant (SNV) mapping by DNA microarray an...
